Opper Sports and FUEL TV Examine Surfing’s Future with New Series FiNS

September 1, 2006 - (Solana Beach, CA)- Opper Sports Production’s latest surfing television project FiNS is scheduled to premiere in primetime this Fall on Fox Cable Network, FUEL TV.  The 13 contemporary magazine-format episodes will showcase today’s top surfers both in and out of the water, with the surf world’s prime locations as their backdrop. FiNS premieres this Fall as part of FUEL TV’s Stacked Sundays programming block.

For FiNS, veteran television producer Ira Opper (Surfer Magazine TV, Surfer’s Journal  TV), writer Brad Melekian (Longboard Magazine, Surfer Magazine) and director Todd Saunders (aka:Girl Surfer, Long Board TV) have teamed up to produce a series that not only showcases progressive surfing, but also takes the viewer on an exploration of the driving forces behind today’s surf culture.

Opper Sports Inc. and FUEL TV are again working together to produce one of the network’s marquee surfing series.   “Ira’s longstanding presence in surf filmmaking has awarded him a significant level of respect with both the legends and current stars,” said Shon Tomlin, Vice President of Programming and Development at FUEL TV.  “His relationship with the industry allows FiNS a unique, all-access perspective into the personalities who are defining the sport.”

Filmed on location over the last year in Australia, Hawaii, Indonesia and California, the show features high performance segments punctuated by insightful interviews and Mike Carter’s (10 Count) upbeat narration.  FiNS marks a shift in focus for the award winning producer Ira Opper whose previous works centered on reinvigorating surf history.

“We are crafting an insightful series on today’s best surfers.  FiNS is a blend of traditional storytelling coupled with high energy action, fresh music and creative editing,” said filmmaker Ira Opper.
