SURF FILM PREMIER TO BENEFIT SURFRIDER FOUNDATION’S EFFORT TO SAVE CARDIFF REEF

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. – The Surfrider Foundation celebrates Earth Day, April 22, with the premier of the new surfing movie “Wordz,” produced and directed by Opper Sports Productions. This special event will be held the evening of April 22 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla with screenings at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. All proceeds will go to stop a proposed sea wall at Cardiff Reef in Encinitas.

The sea wall is proposed by the state to control erosion, but surfers believe it will seriously affect the waves at Cardiff Reef, one of California’s most popular surf spots. The Surfrider Foundation is mounting opposition to the plan.

“Wordz” is the latest production from Opper Sports, the Emmy-award winning team behind “The Surfer’s Journal” television series on Outdoor Life Network, as well as surf movies such as “Super Slide,” “Atlantic Moon” and “Powerglide.” “Wordz” has a powerful collection of images and statements on longboard surfing in 2002, with candid profiles of the world’s best surfers and surf spots. Shot on location in California and around the world, including never-before-seen footage of the best swells this past winter, “Wordz” is the perfect compliment to an evening of support for the protection of Cardiff Reef.

The screening will be hosted by a “special guest” and will include live music and prizes. Admission is $10. Sherwood Auditorium, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego located at 700 Prospect Street, La Jolla. (858) 454-3541.
